WHO YA GONNA CALL…
For those of you following along about how drones could be used for your business, I pose a question — How do you know how to pick a firm to do your land liberating, inspections, photos, videos, and 3D modeling (aka drone flights and services)?
Most of our clients are beginning to understand this is part art, part science, part technology, part marketing…Argh, how does one chose?
Do you go to the Internet and Google search drone flight services to build marketing video? What if you want ‘data’ for your cell tower, quarry, construction project, or precision agriculture to perform real time decisions and crop health analysis? A bazillion new entries come up and everybody has a pretty website, so how do you know which one to choose?
Here’s a few suggestions for questions you may want to ask:
- Is this your day job?
- Who are some of your customers? Can I speak with them?
- How many years of experience do you have and how long have you been in business?
- Can you tell me about composition, depth of field, and exposure?
- How much does your equipment cost, drones, lenses, SD memory cards, cameras, and filters?
- Do you have a fleet of drones or is it just you?
- What expertise do you have in Intel or DJI drones, their sensors, and their plans for big data, and actionable intelligence?
- How do you do the post production?
- What kind of Software and Applications do you utilize to complement your photos/videos?
- Can you build 3D models? Do you feed my GIS platforms? Do you have a data scientist or any GIS expertise on hand?
- Do you have FLIR infrared capabilities? Any roof, HVAC, or solar panel inspection expertise?
- What is your workflow once the images are captured?
- Do you partner with marketing agencies? Who?
- Are you insured? What kind? Drone hull insurance? Business liability insurance?
- If those “razor blades in the sky fall down” what happens? Have you had that happen?
- Do you sell drones if I want to fly my own? Can you train my firm about UAV’s?
- Do you have any FAA certifications?
- How much do you spend in advertising, marketing, fixed costs, website, legal, training, T&E?
While everyone wants a fair deal, I point out as a customer you wouldn’t expect your Doctor, Dentist, Mechanic, Plumber, Carpenter, Roofer, Electrician, Chef, or Hairdresser to work for free (or have a cousin with a new medical instrument do the operation…get my drift)!!!
